CONTESA DI ROCCO PASETTI & C. SOCIETA' AGRICOLA SEMPLICE

Results validated by RINA

Those who know Contesa are well aware that it is not just another winery; it is a direct testament to the unbreakable bond that links our family's life to the vines given to us by an extraordinarily generous land. It is an emotional story, in which our stubborn refusal to compromise has led us to difficult choices and painful separations, yet has rewarded us with infinite gratification thanks to the wisdom of the men and women who, generation after generation, have steadfastly preserved the idea of a winemaking culture built on integrity, coherence, and pride in their roots. Nestled along the fertile and lush lands of a territory always dedicated to viticulture, such as Collecorvino, our 35 hectares of vineyards among the hills of Pescara represent an invaluable heritage bestowed upon us by the land to care for with all the dedication, balance, and wisdom we can muster. We have always been winemakers and oenologists, so for us, these vineyards represent something that goes far beyond technical aspects. However, we understand the importance of telling their excellent characteristics: southeast exposure with significant temperature variation between day and night, ideal seasonality, soils situated 250 meters above sea level, predominantly clay in composition with a small percentage of limestone, and integrated production that prioritizes the balance and protection of the land over chemical treatments. The vineyards of Montepulciano, Sangiovese, and Trebbiano are trained on a spur cordon, while the lower hillside vineyard, the domain of Pecorino grapes, is trained using the Guyot method, featuring high plant densities per hectare and relatively low yields to ensure maximum quality. In the Contesa philosophy, “wine is made in the vineyard,” and the winery is the place where the journey from harvest to bottle aging concludes in a ritual that we consider sacred. Here, patience and silence are indispensable values because we understand that just as nature requires its time to grant us true masterpieces, every fine wine is born from a precise modus operandi honed and passed down from generation to generation. However, at the Contesa winery, we preserve not only precious barriques and Slavonian oak casks, along with innovative temperature-controlled steel tanks that maintain the quality of the musts and reduce the impact on winemaking; primarily, there is a human dimension infused with sincere conviviality and spontaneous hospitality. We are not merely wine entrepreneurs; we are a family in which oenologists and winemakers build their future day by day.

AIR indicator reflects the total greenhouse gas emission directly or indirectly associated with the company activities (GHG Inventory).
Total emissions are divided into six categories: Category 1 – Direct GHG emissions; Category 2 – Indirect GHG emissions from imported energy; Category 3 – Indirect GHG emissions from transportation; Category 4 – Indirect GHG emissions from products used by organization; Category 5 – Indirect GHG emissions associated with the use of products from the organization (NS=Non Significant as outside the reporting boundaries); Category 6 – Indirect GHG emissions from other sources.
The result is graphically represented by the ring in which the colored segments represent the contribution of each Category.

The WATER indicator expresses the potential environmental impacts resulting from the use of fresh water. It takes into account the water directly consumed and polluted by the activities that the company carries out, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, during a calendar year. These impacts are evaluated by two indicators: in particular, water scarcity (Direct Water Scarcity Footprint) depends on the water drawn from water bodies, while the estimate of the qualitative degradation of water (Non-Comprehensive Direct Water Degradation Footprint) derives from processes of re-naturalization of the water bodies.

VINEYARD indicator measures the agricultural practices impact: the use of agrochemicals and their effects on ground water, air and soil quality; the soil management which includes the use of fertilizers; the management of organic materials; phenomena such as compaction and erosion and other activities that can affect biodiversity. The impact of such parameters are expressed on a scale from A to E (A = minimal environmental impact; E = strong environmental impact).

TERRITORY indicator assesses the impact of winery's activities on its surrounding area and local community. This includes: the impact on surrounding biodiversity, taking also into account initiatives carried out by the wine company to protect and preserve the environment; the social and economic impact on local workforce (both in terms of job creation and job quality); the impact on local communities that is producers and consumers. Such indicator analyses whether the winery has respected the socio-economic parameters required by the project.
